Description

CHAINSAW RAKER FILE is a flat, rectangular file used to lower the depth gauge, or “raker,” on a chainsaw chain. Its purpose is to control how deep the cutting teeth penetrate the wood, ensuring proper chip size and preventing the saw from grabbing or stalling. The file is used in conjunction with a raker gauge to maintain the correct, consistent height of the rakers relative to the cutting teeth, which is crucial for safe and efficient cutting.
CHAINSAW RAKER FILE description and functionality:
    • Shape and material: It is a flat, single-cut file, often with one safe (uncut) edge to protect the chain bar’s rail.
    • Purpose: It lowers the rakers, which are the depth gauges that sit next to the cutting teeth on a chainsaw chain.
    • Mechanism: By filing the rakers down, the file allows the cutting teeth to bite into the wood at the correct depth, producing proper wood chips.
    • Importance:
      • If rakers are set too high, the chain may not cut efficiently or could stall.
      • If rakers are set too low, the saw can “grab” into the wood unexpectedly, causing kickback.
