When to get a permit

Works on City Lands Infrastructure Permit

If your construction project affects City property or infrastructure such as streets, sidewalks, boulevards, or parking lots, you must apply for a Works on City Lands and Infrastructure Permit. This includes requests for Water System Shutdown and Fire Hydrant use.

Key Requirements:

  • Provide business insurance naming the City of Campbell River as additional insured with at least $3,000,000 in liability coverage, clearly stating the expiration date.
  • Obtain a Road Closure Permit for any work within curb lines, regardless of traffic flow.
  • Depending on the closure extent, public notification may be necessary.
  • Submit a Traffic and/or Pedestrian Management Plan.
  • Include a Worksafe Clearance Letter.
  • Distribute a “Good Neighbour Letter” to notify local residents and businesses of work details.

For inquiries, contact the Development Services Department at 250-286-5725 or email engineering@campbellriver.ca.

Culvert Permits

A Culvert Permit is necessary when filling in a ditch with a culvert, subject to specific conditions.

Driveway Permits

  • New homes include the Driveway Permit as part of the Building Permit.
  • Existing homes requiring changes to driveways (e.g., new or widened) must obtain a permit.

Oversize Vehicle Permits

Transporting vehicles that are excessively wide, tall, or long necessitates an Oversize Vehicle Permit. Refer to the “Traffic and Highways Regulation Bylaw” for applicable rules.

The 7 essentials gardening and lawn care

To cultivate thriving plants and a healthy outdoor space, follow these essential gardening and lawn care tips.

  • Soil Preparation: Ensure your soil is healthy and well-draining by testing and amending it as needed before planting.
  • Proper Watering: Water plants deeply and less frequently to encourage strong root growth and prevent shallow rooting.
  • Fertilizing: Use appropriate fertilizers to provide essential nutrients for healthy plant growth. Follow application instructions carefully.
  • Weeding: Regularly remove weeds to prevent competition for nutrients and reduce the risk of pests and diseases.
  • Pruning and Trimming: Prune plants and trees to promote growth and maintain shape. Trim lawns regularly to keep them neat and healthy.
  • Mulching: Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  • Pest and Disease Control: Monitor plants for signs of pests and diseases. Use integrated pest management techniques and choose appropriate treatments when necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you stock a bar and chain for my chainsaw?

To ensure we provide the correct bar and chain for your chainsaw, please check the stamp on your chainsaw bar. This stamp contains crucial information about your chainsaw, which helps us find the exact parts you need. If you need assistance locating this information, feel free to ask, and we’ll be happy to help!

Here is an example of what that would look like:

Do you do small engine repairs?

Yes, we do! However, due to high demand in the Spring and Summer, we only work on products we sell. During the shoulder months, we accept other brands as well when the pressure is not quite so intense, though we avoid box store products like Ryobi and Weed Eater due to parts availability issues. Thank you for understanding.

What is your weekend policy for renting equipment?

If you pick up a rental on Saturday, you can keep it until 9am on Monday for a 1-day rental rate. This rental rate covers 8 hours of usage, which can be spread across the entire weekend. Please note that from November to February, we are closed on Saturdays. During these months, the same principle applies: rentals are picked up on Friday and returned on Monday at 9am.

Where do you get your yard/landscape Materials?

All our products are local to Vancouver Island.
