Description
A
STIHL sharpening kit is
a maintenance set for chainsaw chains that includes tools for precise sharpening. Kit contains a file holder with a round file, a flat file for depth gauges, and a file gauge to check angles and depth. The kits are designed to maintain a chain’s sharpness, with different sets available for various saw chain pitches like 1/4″, 3/8″, and .325″.
STIHL CHAINSAW SHARPENING KIT includes:
- File holder with round file: This is used to sharpen the cutting edges of the chain teeth.
- Flat file: This is used to reduce the height of the depth gauges (also called rakers) to their proper level.
- File gauge: This tool is used to check the sharpening angle, tooth length, and depth gauge height to ensure consistency.
- Filing guide: Some kits include a guide that helps maintain a consistent angle during sharpening and depth gauge maintenance.
- Handles: File handles are included for a secure grip.
- Storage bag: Kits often come in a durable bag for storage and transport.
How to use
- Secure the saw: Place the chainsaw in a vise to keep it stable, ensuring the chain can move freely by disengaging the chain brake.
- Identify the starting point: Find the shortest or most damaged tooth and use it as a reference for all other teeth.
- Sharpen the cutting tooth: Place the round file in the guide and stroke it against the cutting tooth, following the correct direction.
- File the depth gauge: Use the flat file to lower the depth gauge to the correct height. Some kits combine these two steps into one pass.
- Repeat: Repeat this process for each tooth, making sure to follow the correct angle and pressure for each stroke.
- Check consistency: After you have sharpened all the teeth, inspect the chain to ensure all teeth are evenly sharpened and the depth gauges are level.
